Shravana Festivals

Shravana is the 5th lunar month in Hindu calendar.

In Hindu Calendar, there are two methods to mark the lunar month. In one, lunar month is marked from Purnima to Purnima (known as Purnimanta calendar) and in other lunar month is marked from Amavasya to Amavasya (known as Amanta calendar).

  1. Kamika Ekadashi - Kamika Ekadashi is one of the twenty four Ekadashi Vrats which are observed to seek blessing of Lord Vishnu.
  2. Shravan Somwar Vrats - All Mondays or Somwar which fall during Shravan month are considered highly auspicious for fasting to seek blessing of Lord Shiva and known as Shravan Somwar. Most states follow regional calendars due to which dates of Sawan Somwar might differ by 2 weeks.
  3. Mangala Gauri Vrats - All the Mangala Gauri Vrat Days falling under the month of Shravana are listed. According to the Hindu calendar, Mangala Gauri Vrat is observed by married women on each Tuesday in Hindu month of Shravana to seek conjugal bliss from Goddess Gauri.
  4. Hariyali Teej - Hariyali Teej commemorates union of Goddess Parvati with Lord Shiva. This festival is celebrated for marital bliss and well-being of spouse and children.
  5. Nag Panchami - On Nag Panchami day married women offer puja and milk to Snake God and women pray for the wellness of their brothers and family.
  6. Shravana Putrada Ekadashi - Shravana Putrada Ekadashi is one of the twenty four Ekadashi Vrats which are observed to seek blessing of Lord Vishnu.
  7. Varalakshmi Vrat - Varalakshmi Vratam is a festival to propitiate the goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu. Simha Lagna, Vrishchika Lagna, Kumbha Lagna, and Vrishabha Lagna Puja Muhurat, required for the Varalakshmi Puja are available on this page.
  8. Raksha Bandhan - The relationship between brothers and sisters is celebrated during Raksha Bandhan festival. It involves sisters tying a sacred thread around brothers' wrist. Raksha Bandhan Thread Ceremony Time is given on this page.
  9. Gayatri Jayanti - Gayatri Jayanti is observed as the birth anniversary of Goddess Gayatri, the Goddess of Veda.
  10. Kalki Jayanti - Kalki Jayanti Muhurat is given on this page. Kalki Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Lord Vishnu in coming future. Kalki would be the tenth and the last incarnation of Lord Vishnu at the end of Kali Yuga.
  11. Hayagriva Jayanti - Hayagriva Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Lord Hayagriva who is considered the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
  12. Narali Purnima - Shravana Purnima is popularly known as Narali Purnima in Maharashtra, especially at coastal Maharashtra and Konkani region.
  13. Sanskrit Diwas - Sanskrit Diwas is celebrated to mark the importance of Sanskrit language, the mother of all Indian languages and the first among the ancient languages spoken in India.
